The Foundation of a Godly Leader
“Follow me as I follow Christ.”
- 1 Corinthians 11:1
Leadership Starts With Who You Are—Not What You Say
1. Lead by Actions More Than Words
People don’t remember speeches—they remember examples. Your lifestyle is your message. How you work, how you treat people, how you honor God—these actions preach louder than anything you could say. Leadership is caught, not just taught. Your consistency becomes someone else’s inspiration.
Reflection: What is one area of my life where my actions need to speak louder today?
2. Are Leaders Born or Developed?
Some leaders start with natural gifts—athleticism, intelligence, charisma. But the most influential leaders are the ones who choose to grow. Grit. Humility. Effort. Consistency. These are the things that build respect and influence. Think of Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward…no hype, no offers, but he refused to quit. Through work ethic and perseverance, he rose to leadership and influence. That’s built, not born.
Talent may open the door, but character keeps it open.
Reflection: Where is God developing me as a leader right now?
3. Leadership Under Pressure (Especially in a QB Role)
Leaders are thermostats—they set the temperature. When things go wrong, they stay steady. When things go right, they stay grounded.
Interception? You respond with confidence and calm. Big play? You celebrate but stay level-headed. Because people follow your attitude long before they follow your words.
Reflection: Am I shaping the atmosphere around me, or am I reacting to it?
4. Being Liked vs. Being Respected
Some leaders chase approval. Great leaders chase integrity. Being liked means doing what others want. Being respected means doing what honors God. “People who succeed do what’s right and then feel good. People who fail wait to feel good before doing what’s right.”
Reflection: Am I leading for approval or leading for God to be respected?
