ITS TIME TO GO

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19

One of the greatest gifts Jesus left us is a clear next step. In Matthew 28:16–20, what we call the Great Commission, Jesus doesn’t just give inspiration… He gives direction. He essentially says, “You’ve seen what I did—making disciples, baptizing, teaching, healing. Now go and do likewise.” Jesus never said it was simply a good idea. He commanded us to go.

Growing up, many of us heard this passage only when missionaries came to church—people heading into jungles, villages, and distant countries. And yes, part of the Great Commission is going across the world. But it’s also something much closer: going across the street. Going into your city. Your school. Your workplace. Your neighborhood. Even your own home. There are people on the same road as you who need to hear about Jesus just as much as someone on the other side of the world.

So why don’t we “go”?

Most of us get comfortable. We slip into routines. We settle into safe spaces. And comfort often becomes the enemy of calling. The truth is this: every believer shares the same purpose which is to proclaim Jesus as Lord, make disciples, baptize, and teach others what Jesus has taught us. Where we live that purpose out may look different. Some will be called to the Philippines… others to Miami… others to the school hallway they walk every day. But God has placed you somewhere on purpose, for purpose.

When Jesus first said these words, His disciples didn’t have airplanes or media. They simply went wherever they could walk, wherever a donkey could carry them. Some places spoke their language; others didn’t. Some people looked like them; others didn’t. But they went. And we can too. The Great Commission isn’t about your ability, it’s about Jesus’ authority. In verse 18, Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” And that same authority works through you by the Holy Spirit. The early disciples didn’t perform miracles because they were special, they walked in obedience, trusting that Jesus’ name carried power.

You are never going alone.

People may resist you. Some will be closed off because their life feels comfortable. But others are hungry, even desperate for truth, hope, forgiveness, and purpose. And their eternity can change because you chose to step out. Verse 17 even tells us that when the disciples saw Jesus, some doubted. And that’s comforting. Doubt doesn’t mean unbelief, it often means you’re stretching into something bigger than you can understand. Faith grows in the tension between what you see and what God promises.

So today…don’t stay stuck in comfort. Don’t stay silent. Don’t wait for a “perfect moment.” You are Jesus’ hands and feet to your community, your friends, your teammates, your coworkers.

Go today. Just like Jesus commanded. And trust that He is with you “always, to the end of the age.”
